The theme of Abby Record’s exhibition is “Tourists”. These paintings reflect the travel that has been an important part of Abby’s post-retirement life. This travel has offered her opportunities for visits to amazing sites and museums, which are portrayed in the paintings. Also, as reflected in the paintings, Abby is drawn to linear compositions, and these places provide wonderful spaces and perspectives for her to work with. Abby also likes to portray people. The people in her paintings are often gazing off into distances making one wonder where they are and what they are looking at. In some cases they are in their post-retirement years like Abby herself, continuing to participate and take pleasure in what they are seeing.
