About the Artist, Enzo Fontana

Enzo Fontana, an Italian painter, was born in Bolzano, a town in northern Italy near the Austrian border where his interest in painting began. After studying in Venice for two years, Enzo moved to Tuscany. There, he painted and worked on restoring villas and private residences in Italy, France, and Switzerland. Enzo maintains a working studio and residence in Tuscany and has had solo exhibitions in Tierrnia (Pisa) and Camaiore (Lucca). The paintings in these exhibitions were based on his travels and experiences in Mexico, Guatemala, Venezuela, Cuba, Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam.

Over the years, Enzo’s work has evolved into his current style of “macro-pixelation,” with each painting starting as a monochromatic representation of the subject matter.

From that initial figurative painting, the images are catapulted through a kinetic explosion of distilled color strokes. The result of this process sometimes yields a hundred different hues of a single color bathed in faceted light.
