Artist Requirements for Jury Process
Eligibility
Associate Member of the Marblehead Arts Association (MAA)
Categories
- Fine Arts – painting, drawing, mixed media, printmaking
- Photography – technical and creative retouching, cyanotype
- Sculpture – metal, wood, fiber, mixed media, found objects, glass
- Craft – home goods, toys, items that have a purpose rather than purely decoration
- Wearable Art – jewelry, clothing, accessories
- Digital Art and Animation – includes AI, video, multimedia
- Culinary Art – details to come
Requirements
- Completed Application Form
- Artist Statement
- Artist Resume (Artist’s name, address, telephone #, email must be on all papers)
- 5 Original works prepared for exhibition
Guidelines
- No slides or photographs of work are permitted unless the artist lives outside of a 75-mile radius from Marblehead, or a special circumstance request has been pre-approved by the MAA.
- If digital photos have been approved by MAA for artist membership jurying, please size them as 2000×2000 pixels @ 250 dpi. Send images, plus above documents to [email protected].
- All artwork must be presented, framed, and wired (gallery wrapped canvases are accepted but sides must be painted).
- Presentation of artwork will be taken into consideration in the jury process.Judges suggest submitting work that has been done in the past 3 years using a similar style in order to present a cohesive body of work.
- Artwork must be labeled with the artist’s name, title of work, medium and date. Attach this information to the back of each submitted work using the exhibit label found on the right side of the Jury In page.
Fee
$25.00 non-refundable jury fee.
(Artists who are re-applying for artist membership status, within a two-year period from a previous application, will have the jury fee waived.)
When
Jurying occurs in the spring and fall of each year, please refer to the calendar on the MAA website for specific dates.
Jurors
The panel of jurors is made up of MAA artist members. There are separate jury panels for the fine art, photography and craft categories. All jury decisions are final.
To Apply
Bring your completed application materials to the MAA with payment by the posted art submission date. The MAA will notify artists of the jurors’ decision by mail within 14 days of the jury date.
Juror Feedback
If requested, jurors will provide written feedback on their review of work if not accepted.
