Introduction to Printing (Part Two)

The Introduction to Printing course is a four-week class designed to familiarize intermediate or advanced beginner artists with various printmaking techniques and will build on the concepts covered in our first Introduction to Printing class and explore new techniques. The course will be conducted at Little Harbor Studios, located at 18 Doak’s Lane, and will utilize their etching press.

Students will have access to practice time during the week. Prior drawing and painting experience will be beneficial for participants. Examples of professional work will be provided.

The course will be offered on Class dates: January 31st, February 7th, February 14th, and February 28th from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM. To enroll in this course, there is a fee of $200. All supplies will be provided, covered by a $100 lab fee which can be paid at the first class meeting.

*Please note: It isn’t necessary to have participated in the first part of our Introduction to Printing course to enroll in Part Two.

Session 1:
Dry Point intaglio: Working on acrylic plate using etching needle, develop a reusable plate and print it in editions.

Session 2:
Collograph: Using mat board and other raised elements glued to a board, develop a multi colored image in edition.

Session 3:
Viscosity monotypes: Explore the singular properties of oil inks to develop complex patterned images.

Session 4:
Mixed media printmaking: Combining multiple methods to create unique monotypes.

About the Instructor

About the Instructor

Amy Hourihan, an acclaimed painter and printmaker, will be the instructor. Her monotypes can be found in both private and public collections.

Amy has studied printmaking with Joel Janowitz at the Mixit Studio in Sommerville, as well as at the MFA and Maude Morgan in Cambridge. She has also trained in mock hang woodcuts with Matt Brown of Lyme, NH.
