Proposal Criteria for an Individual or Group Exhibit at the Marblehead Arts Association
Members of the Marblehead Arts Association (MAA) Art Committee will meet to review submitted proposals by artist members for 2027 individual exhibits. The exhibit schedule will be determined for the 2027 calendar year in all galleries. Applicants will be notified of the results of the Art Committee by email in June 2026.
Requirements
- A brief, clearly articulated description and theme of the proposed exhibition.
- A resume with artist name and contact information including an email address and website (if available).
- 8-10 digital images of work saved in a jpg format at maximum quality. The images need to be in Adobe RGB color space, with a resolution of 200 pixels and sized to a maximum of 3000 pixels on the longest side. We encourage submitted work to have been recently produced within the last five years and not previously exhibited at the MAA. Retrospectives will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Each image must be clearly numbered.
- The submitted images must be representative of the quality, medium, and content that will be shown in your exhibit. Your acceptance will be based on the work that is submitted in the proposal. The submitted work is expected to serve as the foundation for an accepted exhibit with some, if not all of the submitted work to be included in an accepted exhibit. 80-90% of all work exhibited should be for sale; the MAA encourages gallery sales and receives a 35% commission on all work sold. New and/or additional work may be added to an accepted exhibit but should be discussed with the MAA.
- A numbered list noting the medium and size of each image with titles where possible.
How to Submit
1. Apply by filling out all required fields on our Jotform here.
2. On a Flash Drive, Thumb Drive or Zip Stick (please make sure it is unlocked) mailed to the MAA.
(If your proposal is not accepted and you would like your flash drive returned, please include a self-addressed, stamped, mailer envelope.)
3. Email submissions to [email protected].
PLEASE NOTE: Email may not exceed 20mb
PLEASE NOTE: You may indicate a preference for a particular month and/or a gallery for exhibition but THE MAA cannot guarantee your gallery or exhibit month preference. Please indicate if your artwork will not be available during certain months or if there are certain dates you cannot exhibit.
- If you plan to have a shared exhibit with other artists, all criteria above apply for all artists. (If you are planning a shared exhibit please submit a single proposal covering all artists)
- Incomplete or incorrect submissions will not be considered.
If accepted for an exhibit in 2027, artist members exhibiting in the MAA Ballroom (third floor) may not have an individual exhibit for 36 months from the close of their 2027 exhibit; artist members exhibiting in the first and second floor galleries may not have an individual exhibit for 24 months from the close of their 2027 exhibit. This does not apply to MAA all-member show entries. By submitting your proposal you are agreeing to the terms and conditions for submission of artwork at the MAA outlined on our website under Exhibitor Information.
