Emer McCourt
A late blooming artist I threw myself headlong into my pursuit of art in my fifties. I listened to an insistent internal voice telling me to give my art a chance. At first I wanted to learn how to draw in order to improve my painting but when I started drawing with charcoal my aspirations shifted. I enjoyed working with charcoal so much more than any other medium it’s all I used for several years – I now paint & use other dry media too. To me there is such an immediacy & intimacy to drawing.
Animals make the best subject matter for me because there is no artifice in any animal expression. I’m always looking to capture a glimpse into their
range of emotions. Utterly uninhibited animals just do their thing each lending a unique perspective on life. Their freedom of expression and their behavior speaks to us all in its unabashed sincerity. I try to capture even a touch of that movement or mischief or love.
I am originally from Dublin, Ireland and live with my family & several pets on Bostons North Shore.
