Echoes from Home is Shana Sood’s intimate exploration of nostalgia, memory, and cultural belonging through expressive figurative portraits and vibrant abstract compositions. By weaving together figurative and abstract styles, inspired in part by Indian folk art, Sood captures the duality of the immigrant experience: the rooted and the restless, the concrete and the ephemeral. This collection invites viewers to reflect on their own sense of home and identity across time and place.
About the Artist, Shana Sood
Shana Sood is a late blooming, self-taught artist. Indian by birth, American by residence. She began to define her individualistic style only in her late thirties, and it reflects the deep nostalgia that emanates from her Indian roots.
She was born in New Delhi and lived there for the first twenty-five years of her life, before moving to USA in 2005.
Her art is a window into her own hopeless romanticism and a way for her to connect with her diaspora. She strives to expand the cultural and emotional spectrum currently at display in both American and Indian art. Her portraits tell stories of people she has met along her journey, and she wants these portraits to be stand-alone experiences for the viewers prompting curiosity and dialogue about various nuances of our optically different but inherently similar cultures, along with an acceptance for the various tangents of relationships.
Her work has been juried in for exhibitions at reputed New England galleries like North Shore Arts Association, Arlington Center of Arts and Marblehead Arts Association.
In January 2021, she was inducted as one of the anchor artists at The Patriot Place Art Gallery (co-op) located near the Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts.
