Art to Make You Happy – Deborah Baye

January 17 – February 21

Hendrick Gallery

Contemporary Mixed Media, Abstract Art, Unique One of a Kind, Original Art works

This collection began as small drawings and paintings on postcard-sized cardstock, created with pencil, watercolor pencil, and mixed paints. Over time, the work evolved to include cut pieces of various sizes and shapes, which were then applied to hardboard frames. Some of the more recent pieces are painted directly onto the hardboards. Most works are finished with a glossy resin coating.

They can be displayed individually or in groups, hung vertically or horizontally, and even rotated for a fresh viewing experience.

Artist’s Statement

Deborah is a lifelong New Englander, raised in Framingham and later Boston. She studied at Boston University and went on to practice as an Occupational Therapist. Three years ago, she and her family relocated to the beautiful seaside town of Swampscott.
Her artistic journey began in high school, where she was fortunate to explore a wide range of creative mediums, including jewelry, pottery, and photography.

Deborah’s artwork reflects her internal energy—a form of intuitive, meditative expression. She draws inspiration from many sources, particularly the repeating patterns found in nature and science, as well as the work of other visual artists.

She currently works on birchwood boards in varied shapes and sizes, building her compositions through layered applications of color and texture. These layers create pieces that are visually complex, joyful, and true to her guiding philosophy: Art to Make You Happy. Her work is rarely pre-planned; instead, it evolves organically into repeating yet inconsistent patterns. Vivid colors and unfussy shapes have become her signature style.

Deborah’s art can complement any space and is enjoyed by people of all ages. Her pieces hang in galleries, private homes, businesses, restaurants, and offices across the United States and abroad.
