Encore Provence – Linda Lea Bertrand

March 1 – April 12

Dining Room Gallery

ENCORE PROVENCE is a colorful sojourn through the south of France with local painter, Linda Lea Bertrand. It will get you dreaming of spring.

Linda Lea Bertrand is a local Marblehead artist who paints realistic landscapes with an Impressionistic color sense. Her paintings invite you to step inside and feel the warm sun and smell the local lavender and watch the poppies blowing in the wind. While there stop at a café and enjoy watching the local activity. She has been drawing all her life and began painting in 2008.

Since retiring from Nursing in 2019, painting has become a daily activity. With a name like Bertrand, she has a natural affinity for France. She has spent several seasons with her trusty 8×10 “pochade box, containing all she needs to create small colorful paintings of the Provence countryside – vineyards, lavender fields, tiny villages, cafes and occasionally Roman ruins and the Mediterranean Sea.

Linda Lea had a previous exhibit of paintings of Provence in 2000. However, few saw it due to covid lock down, thus “encore “ in the title. ENCORE PROVENCE presents new paintings from her travels since covid ended. Strolling through the gallery, is like strolling through the places she has visited and painted.

Beginning with the Impressionists, artists created small paintings that fit into a pochade box that painters use for plein air, or painting outside. Like post cards, artists began giving them to family, friends, and other artists to document where they had been or as an example of their technique.

After several trips, Linda Lea has a collection of these small paintings, called pochades. Lucky family and friends have them. You can acquire one too by visiting the exhibit.
