Create an Original Velvet (Theorem) Painting
Thursday, August 22nd • 7:00pm – 9:00pm
Marblehead Arts Association | 8 Hooper Street, Marblehead
Create an original painting using stencils on velvet following the early 19th century techniques called Theorem Painting. Join Linda Sheldon, an award winning member of the Historical Society of Early American Decoration (HSEAD) to create your own Whimsical Morning Glory.
A theorem painting is created on velvet using multiple cut stencils. These stencils are layered seamlessly to create a complete painting. You will be provided with a velvet board, necessary stencils, and oil paints with appropriate brushes. You will be guided through the process from start to finish to create your own morning glory.
HSEAD is a 78 year-old organization dedicated in continuing Early American Art Skills. These techniques are taught today in memory of our founding teacher Ester Stevens Brazer who dedicated her life to preservation.
