Cheryl Dyment

“I am a physically and emotionally engaged artist. My work is filled with energy, as exemplified by my mark making and sweeping gestural strokes. The paintings are noteworthy for their lyrical play with color while taking advantage of chance encounters. Nothing beats a big wide expanse of canvas or paper with which to grapple. Not afraid to be bold and not afraid to be soft, the work can appear as energetic and colorful, or quiet and subdued.

Art has given me agency to explore and discover the truths of my deeper feelings, my reactions, and understanding of how the world, in all its highs and lows, has affected the human condition. The work is my own language. Generated by a deep need to celebrate the human spirit, I have no choice but to attempt to satisfy the unquenchable thirst to create. For this “agency” and life, I am grateful.

Not everyone gets to do this. It is intense and satisfying work. It is work that I must do.”
