Life Drawing

Tuesday mornings through September,
Wednesday mornings starting in October, 9am–noon

Members: $12 | Non-members: $15

Exercise and refine your art skills by drawing from a clothed or nude model every Tuesday from 9–noon. Models are scheduled a month in advance and their hire depends on number of participants signed up for the class. If you know you will be attending please call or email Margie Detkin (781-631-0352 or MDetkin(at)comcast.net. Those willing to sit as a clothed model for one class may attend one nude model session as a participating artist for free, advance notice is required. Otherwise class participants draw each other. Bring your medium of choice. If working with paints, please bring your own drop cloth. A limited number of easels are available.

Watercolor Class for all Levels

Explore your creativity while having fun. Spontaneous painting can become realism or abstract. Let art become your personal expression of creativity. A no pressure experience where the only mistake you can make is to stop having fun. Watercolor experience for all levels. Discussions of subject matter, composition, and techniques. Instructors work will be available for review. This is a studio class, so please bringing in some photos of possible painting subjects. Materials cost can range $20–$40, depending on size and preferences. Materials list will be provided upon registration. If you have watercolor supplies feel free to bring to the first class. If you prefer to wait to purchase supplies, some basic supplies will be available for the first class.

Bio: Allen holds a BS in Fine Art and an AS in Graphic Design from Northeastern University, Boston, MA. and has studied art at the Museum of Fine Arts Museum School Boston, Mass College of Art, and with well known artists Frank Webb, Barbara Nechis, and William Vrscak. She teaches watercolor with local continuing education programs and occasional workshops. Allen has won many local and government awards. Her work can be found in private collections in the U.S. and abroad. Her work can also be found at the Museum of Military History in Washington D.C.

Pastel Landscape Painting Workshop

Saturday, Oct. 4, Sunday, Oct. 12, 10–4pm

The vivid, radiant colors of pastel, its ease of application and ability to convey mood, movement and detail — all make this exciting medium a perfect choice for the landscape painter. In this two-part class series we will create large scale pastel paintings, beginning with charcoal sketches and continuing through layering techniques to the final blending, fixing and detailing of finished pieces. Weather permitting, we will work outdoors to capture the freshness and variability of the natural world.

Bio: Carol Dearborn is a third-generation artist from a family with a tradition of art for social action. In addition to her landscapes in various media, she has for many years used series of semi-abstract and symbolist paintings for energetic healing and transformation. Creativity and Shamanism Workshop

For thousands of years shamans have used art to bring about healing and balance in the world. In this introductory workshop we follow shamanic customs to open ourselves to new levels of creative awareness, vision and possibility. Using the elements of our natural surroundings in the ancient technique of sand painting, we explore our power to create new physical realities for our personal lives and for Earth. Our paintings become places to observe spirit intervention and guidance, as well as permanent locales of healing in the land and in our hearts.

Jewelry Class

Instructor: Dawn Livigne
Tuesdays, October 7, 14, 21, 7–9pm
Members: $60 (materials fee $50) | Non-members: $75 (materials fee $50)

Learn basic jewelry making skills from simple string beading and knotting to wire work. We will make 6 finished pieces of jewelry in this class, including necklaces, a bracelet and drop earrings.

Bio: Dawn Livigne is the owner of EOS Designs, creating handcrafted pearl, gemstone & crystal jewelry.

Gift Tags for the Holidays

Make wonderful gift tags for your holiday gifts. Simple to do with just a bit of creativity and some wonderful patterns and supplies.

Bio: Sandra Golbert has been working in fiber for many years and has won several awards and grants, among them, an Endowment for the Arts grant and a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant. Her artwork and jewelry can be seen in galleries around the country and in the Caribbean. She has taken part in many juried exhibitions including the 9×9×3 exhibit at the American Craft Museum in New York City, the Art to Wear show at the Noyes Museum in NJ.

Her work is part of the permanent collection of the National Association of Women Artists at the Zimmerli Museum at Rutgers University. She is honored to be included in this collection among luminaries such as Mary Cassatt, Judy Chicago and Louise Nevelson.

Small Gift Boxes for the Holidays

Make wonderful gift boxes for little presents in several designs for your holiday gift giving. Simple to do with just a bit of creativity and some wonderful patterns and supplies.

MAA Class Policies

Tuition Payment: You may register in person, by mail or by the phone. Please give your name, address, phone and email address. Tuition must be paid when you register. We accept cash, check, Visa and MasterCard.

Cancellation Policies: A refund, minus a $20 processing fee will be issued if we are notified at least one week prior to the start of your class. Once classes begin your tuition can not be refunded. Generally our classes are held with a minimum of 4 students. Decisions on whether a MAA class or workshop meets minimum student enrollment will be made at least 48 hours before the beginning of the class/workshop. Occasionally a class will be postponed. The office will contact students to inform them of the class status should a class/workshop need to be cancelled. In the case of the MAA cancelling a class, your tuition will be fully reimbursed, or your account will be credited.

Confirmations: We do not send written confirmations but we will notify you if there are any problems with your registration or changes that you should know about.
